Description

This project addresses the bridge that carries Bloom Street over Butternut Creek in the village of Gilbertsville, Otsego County.

Issue Description:
Bridge is within the Village of Gilbertsville Historic District. A 1973 OPRHP Structure Inventory Form records this location as a Unique Site, however, the current Truss Structure is NOT the original "Douglas Patent Lenticular Truss" noted in the inventory. In addition, the abutments are not original construction. A replacement structure using a truss to resemble the aesthetics of the existing bridge with a reinforced concrete deck replacing the open steel grid deck is preferred.
