SPRAIN BROOK PARKWAY SB/PAYNE STREET
Project ID No. 810631 , Contract Number D263467
Description
In order to address the deficiencies of the Mechanically Stabilized Earth System wall, as well as the bridges' decks and superstructures, this project will replace the Sprain Brook Parkway southbound bridge over Payne Street with new longer span bridge. This will allow the removal of some of the Mechanically Stabilized Earth System wall between the existing abutments and the proposed abutments. It will also eliminate any stability concerns regarding the bridge since the proposed new bridge will be founded on piles which will carry the loads without utilizing the Mechanically Stabilized Earth System abutments and retaining/wing walls. The new bridge will be a steel bridge with integral abutments. On the Payne Street side of the Mechanically Stabilized Earth Syatem, a H-pile and lagging wall (with concrete coating/layer) will be incorporated in such a way that the Mechanically Stabilized Earth System wall will not be relied upon for any structural stability for the new bridge structure. The new bridge will be constructed in a single stage. The Sprain Brook Parkway currently has three lanes in each direction; during construction, the Sprain Brook southbound traffic will be reduced to two lanes and crossed over onto the Sprain Brook Parkway northbound bridge. For this traffic cross-over to operate, the northbound Sprain Brook Parkway will also be reduced to two lanes during construction, so that a total of four lanes of traffic separated by a temporary concrete barrier can be carried on the Sprain Brook Parkway northbound bridge. This project is located in the Town of Greenburgh in Westchester County.
