Safety Enhancements

This project proposes to provide safety enhancements at various locations by extending left turn lanes & adding new deceleration lanes. A turn-around for the emergency vehicles is also included in this project for Sagtikos State Pkwy. This will help to reduce the response time for first responders. The locations with proposed work are:  1. Meadowbrook State Pkwy s/b at Exit M3W (Merchants Concourse), Town of Hempstead, Nassau County. Install a new deceleration lane.  2. Meadowbrook State Pkwy n/b at Exit M3E (Merchants Concourse), Town of Hempstead, Nassau County. Install a new deceleration lane.  3. Union Tpk e/b to n/b New Hyde Park Rd, Town of North Hempstead, Nassau County. Install an exclusive left turn lane from e/b Union Tpk to n/b New Hyde Park Rd.  4. NY106 (Jericho Oyster Bay Rd) n/b at opening south of Windsor Dr, Town of Oyster Bay, Nassau County. Provide a new U-Turn lane.  5.  Northern State Pkwy e/b at Exit 37A (I-495), Town of Oyster Bay, Nassau County. Install a new deceleration lane.  6. NY231 at Hunter Ave, Town of Babylon, Suffolk County.  Add new right turn lane on both NY231 n/b & s/b directions at Hunter Ave.  7. NY231 s/b at Tiana Pl, Town of Huntington, Suffolk County. Provide a new U-Turn lane.  8. NY454 w/b at Old Nichols Rd, Town of Islip, Suffolk County.  Add a second left turn lane. Replace the existing median with concrete barrier.  9. Sunken Meadow Pkwy between Scholar Lane & Pulaski Rd in the Town of Smithtown, Suffolk County. Provide a median opening for emergency vehicles.  10. Lane extensions at the follow locations on NY27 (Sunrise Highway), Town of Hempstead, Nassau County: NY27 w/b at Green Acres Rd South, NY27 e/b at South Franklin Ave, NY27 w/b & e/b at Brooklyn Ave/Stewart Pl, NY27 w/b & e/b at Horton Ave, NY27 (Sunrise Highway) e/b at North Center Ave, NY27 w/b at Liberty Ave, NY27 w/b at the Meadowbrook Shopping Center, NY27 w/b at Wantagh Ave & NY27 w/b at Beech St.

Estimated Substantial Completion Date - This is the day the public (including vehicles and pedestrians) has full and unrestricted use and benefit of the facilities both from the operational and safety standpoint.
